Amish Hamburger Steak Bake
Ingredients:
1 lb ground beef (or ground turkey for a lighter option)
1 large onion, chopped
3 large potatoes, thinly sliced
1 cup beef broth
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1 cup shredded cheese (optional)
Optional additions: bell peppers, carrots, or mushrooms
Optional herbs: fresh thyme, parsley, or rosemary
Instructions:
Preheat Oven: Set your oven to 375°F (190°C).
Cook Beef: In a skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef with the chopped onions. Drain excess fat.
Prepare Potatoes: While the beef cooks, thinly slice the potatoes.
Layer Ingredients: In a greased baking dish, layer the sliced potatoes, then the cooked beef and onions. Pour beef broth over the layers and season with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
Bake: Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove foil and bake for another 10-15 minutes until the potatoes are tender and golden.
Optional Cheese Topping: If using, sprinkle shredded cheese on top for the last few minutes of baking until melted and bubbly.
Serve: Let the bake rest for a few minutes before serving. Optionally, garnish with fresh herbs.
Storage and Reheating:
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
Reheat in the oven at 350°F (175°C) for 15-20 minutes or microwave individual portions until heated through.
Enjoy this hearty, comforting dish perfect for busy nights!
