Jennifer Lopez has learned to ignore critics online but acknowledges that certain remarks may still be “hurtful.”
In a wide-ranging interview with comic Nikki Glaser for a cover story in Interview magazine, Lopez, 55, spoke about how her “whole f—ing world exploded” over the summer, when she canceled her tour and dealt with the breakdown of her marriage to Ben Affleck in public. She filed for divorce in August, citing their separation date as April 26.
Lopez claimed she witnessed an internet conversation in which strangers attempted to assign blame for her breakup.
“I am aware that everything published and spoken about me, as well as any speculation about who I am as a person, is not accurate. “I learned that a long time ago,” the Unstoppable actress stated in an interview recorded on September 10.
“And because social media emerged after I had been in the public eye for some time, I don’t take it as seriously as everyone else,” she continued. “I understand that I am a kind person.” I know I’m a decent mother. I know who my buddies are. My friends are aware of who I am, as are my mother and father.
The diva, who has 16-year-old twins with ex-husband Marc Anthony, stated that in order to “have a long career,” one must “learn how to deal with that part of the business.”
Lopez pointed out that while some people may love you, others may not understand you, and some may simply wish to hate you, none of this truly matters. “What matters for me, as an artist, is doing work that inspires me and that I enjoy doing, whether it’s a huge commercial success or something that only touches one person that nobody ever f—ing even sees.”
Lopez stated that anything else “doesn’t matter” since “this is my life’s passion.” I enjoy singing. I love to dance. I really enjoy acting. I enjoy entertaining. “I love to create.”
Nonetheless, the Hustlers actress stated, “Please don’t get me wrong; if I see something hurtful, I’m not Teflon.”
During the interview, Lopez stated, “If you’re going to survive in this business, you’re going to have to understand that there is a very small fraction of people who are probably unhappy in some way” and propagate hate online.
“How can I devote time to creating a video when I have so much going on in my life and these beautiful kids?” she asked in an interview cover article. “I can’t,” she stated in an interview cover article. “Even in difficult situations, I just say, ‘You know the truth.’ Hold your head high. As they stated in Finding Nemo, “Keep swimming.”
